Are you graduating in 2007?
Staff and students who are graduating this year are encouraged to help the University by taking a few minutes to fill out the Australian Graduate Survey. The survey allows you to report on your experience at UQ, and what you have been doing since you graduated. The AGS is a national survey conducted each year by all Australian universities. Your completed AGS will help by:
- Letting other students in your program know what career options are open to them;
- Giving UQ feedback on the quality and relevance of its programs and courses.

How do you travel to the St Lucia campus?
Students and staff at St Lucia campus are invited to participate in an online questionnaire survey of travel choices following the opening of the Eleanor Schonell Bridge in December, 2006. A winner will be randomly drawn from survey participants. First prize: unlimited access to Dream World and White Water World theme parks (for two) for one year. Second prize: $250 Myer gift voucher. UQ Secretaries and Office Professionals Association celebrates Christmas
UQSOPA’s celebration will be held on Thursday, November 29 at 5.30pm at the Hundred Acre Bar, Hillstone St Lucia. Ipswich campus manager to coordinate vet build
The Campus Manager at UQ Ipswich, Warren Kerswill, has commenced a two-year appointment as the Veterinary Science School Relocation Project Manager, under the direction of the Veterinary Science Relocation Project Control Group. In this role he will oversee the project logistics including: personnel relocation, resourcing issues, and the construction of three new facilities at Gatton. They include an Animal Hospital, Equine Clinic and Research Centre, and refurbishment of a fourth building for teaching purposes. Mr Kerswill is currently working part-time across both roles and will commence full-time in his new position from February, 2008. Details: email w.kerswill@uq.edu.au.
Exciting retrospective exhibition opens this week
The first major solo exhibition of one of Australia's most respected artists, the late Mr Paddy Bedford, opens at The University of Queensland Art Museum, St Lucia on Friday, November 16. The exhibition will be opened by Elizabeth Ann Macgregor, Director, Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Sydney at 6pm for 6.30pm. RSVP by November 14 to artmuseum@uq.edu.au or ext. 53046. Guided tour of Paddy Bedford for seminar attendees
A free, guided tour of the Paddy Bedford exhibition will be offered to people attending the ‘Beyond Visitor Numbers’ seminar at the UQ Art Museum on Monday, November 19. The tour with Ken Watson and Samantha Martin is at 1pm before the seminar starts at 2pm. Seminar keynote speakers are Lauren Parker of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and Associate Professor John Armstrong, of the University of Melbourne. Addiction studies courses on offer

Are you interested in a counselling career?
The School of Social Work and Applied Human Sciences will present a free mini-conference and morning tea showcasing the Master of Counselling program. Applications closing soon for BEL postgraduate coursework scholarships
The BEL Faculty is offering Commonwealth-supported postgraduate scholarships to general staff employed in full-time continuing appointments for at least two years. Applicants must apply separately for admission to one of the Faculty's postgraduate coursework programs and provide evidence they have been admitted to a relevant program. EPSA offers postgraduate scholarships for general staff

Volunteers needed for high blood pressure study
UQ and Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) researchers are seeking volunteers aged 18 to 75 for a study determining the effectiveness of a new method guiding therapy in people with high blood pressure (BP). Participants should have been diagnosed with high blood pressure in the past three months and be taking at least one, but no more than two drugs to lower BP. They will be required to attend the PAH for blood pressure measurements, echocardiograph and blood test. Participants sought for bone and muscle health study
Healthy control volunteers aged seven to 17 years are required to help researchers using new technology, peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT), to investigate the development of, and interaction between, muscle and bone in young individuals with Cystic Fibrosis compared to healthy controls. Participants will be required to attend the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH), Herston, for three hours, once only. Tests will be performed to assess bone and muscle function. It is planned that testing sessions will be conducted in school holiday periods. Parking fees will be met by the Children’s Nutrition Research Centre. Details: Denise Brookes or phone ext. 64936.
