Are you someone who has successfully integrated innovative eLearning technologies into your course or program? Diversity discussion on students with Asperger and autism

The Equity Office will host a Diversity Discussion on students with Asperger syndrome and on the Autism spectrum, featuring Dr Kate Sofronoff from UQ’s School of Psychology and special guest Dr Tony Attwood, leading international expert on AS. Benefactors Morning Tea

This morning tea was the first opportunity this year for the Advancement Office team to thank and recognise people who have included the University in their Wills. After a warm welcome from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, External Relations (Acting), Professor Ian Zimmer, future benefactors and family members of past benefactors were treated to a guided tour by curator Michele Helmrich of the exquisite Margaret Olley: Life’s Journey exhibition currently on display at the UQ Art Museum. Switch off for a good cause

A blanket of darkness will descend on UQ on Saturday, March 28 as lights go out to support the global Earth Hour movement. The carefully co-ordinated lights out operation, between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, will target non-essential lighting at UQ's St Lucia, Gatton, Ipswich and Herston campuses, Indooroopilly Mine and Moreton Bay Research Station on North Stradbroke Island. Staff are being encouraged to turn off their computers, monitors and associated equipment as well as non-essential lights in their work spaces before leaving on Friday, March 27 and on a daily basis when not in use. The University will again calculate the amount of energy saved during Earth Hour. UQ's Occupational Health and Safety guidelines will be observed, and emergency lighting and University security systems will operate normally. Diversity Week

“In Others’ Shoes” is the theme of Diversity Week 2009 (May 25-29). The highlight of this year’s activities is the Vice-Chancellor’s Equity and Diversity Awards on Thursday, May 28 (free to UQ staff, students and guests). Applications are called for the Vice-Chancellor’s Equity and Diversity awards that recognise outstanding contributions to the University and its community. These prestigious awards are valued at $10,000 and $5000 for the winner and runner-up. Staff can also arrange a relevant activity or event and apply for a Diversity Week grant. Details: click here.

Nominations close on Friday, April 24, for the University’s Awards for Teaching Excellence, Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning and Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. Round 2 applications open for the ACTS funds

The fund aims to further foster innovative teaching and learning practice using the facilities available in the Advanced Concept Teaching Space (ACTS) Building 14, GPN4. Exercise program for people with diabetes or post-cancer

The School of Human Movement Studies and UQ SPORT’s Inter-Professional Clinics have developed a practicum placements program, offering people in post-cancer treatment or with type 2 diabetes a personalised, eight-week light exercise program. ISSR Winter School Workshops

Two leading international scholars will join the Institute for Social Science Research, in cooperation with participating Schools in the Faculty of Social & Behavioural Sciences, to present two postgraduate workshops (known as Winter Schools) on key research themes in the social sciences. Each International Visiting Fellow will design and conduct one workshop, of five days duration, in the inter-semester break during July 2009. Details: click here.
