Executive appointments
UQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Greenfield has announced Professor Max Lu, currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research Linkages), will act as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) from April 6 while the recruitment process for this position is in progress and Professor Mick McManus will continue to act as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) until the end of the year with a selection process for this position beginning in the second half of 2009.
Enterprise bargaining
As staff are aware, in November last year the University indicated its preparedness to commence enterprise bargaining on the issues raised by Unions in their various logs of claim once the financial situation and the industrial relations environment become clearer. We indicated that in view of uncertainties at the time it was unlikely that serious negotiations could effectively take place until the latter part of the first half of 2009 when the Federal Budget situation is known. Importantly, any negotiations were to be subject to:
- the various unions consolidating their claims to more properly reflect the UQ environment and our commercial reality;
- one Agreement covering all Academic, General and ICTE staff; and
- an Agreement running for at least three years.
This proposed single Agreement would reflect the many common conditions already in existence for all staff at this University and would be administratively more efficient. In the meantime the Vice-Chancellor approved an increase in academic and general staff salaries from January 1, 2009, of 4%. He also approved a further increase in ICTE staff salaries of 0.5% from the same date, ensuring all staff effectively received a 4% administrative increase. The University has offered to meet with the Unions to receive a consolidated log of claims and provide a briefing on this year’s University Budget and our assessment of the financial outlook for subsequent years. Staff will be informed of future developments.
