The latest

UQ staff engagement survey

The staff engagement survey was conducted last year and achieved a 46% response rate, with 3075 completed questionnaires from staff across the University. Based on the results, the Vice-Chancellor is establishing two task groups to provide practical advice on improving performance on the corporate level issues of Communication and Leadership. At the local level, Heads of School and Directors have been asked to meet with staff and identify two key issues to be addressed and develop planned responses and a strategy for evaluating outcomes. UQ Excellence in Teaching and Learning Awards close April 24

Nominations close on Friday, April 24, for the University’s Awards for Teaching Excellence, Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning and Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. Preview the new UQ brand campaign

Before the revitalised UQ brand campaign is launched publicly, the INSIGHT Project Team would like to invite all UQ staff to an exciting preview. The first preview screening will be held at 4.30pm on Wednesday, March 11 at the Schonell Theatre, St Lucia Campus. Additional viewing sessions are scheduled for the other campuses:

  • Herston: 1pm on Monday, March 16 in the ES Myers Lecture Theatre
  • Ipswich: 10am on Tuesday, March 17 in Room 113, Building 12
  • Gatton: 2pm on Tuesday, March 17 in Room 116, Building 17

Parking restrictions extended in St Lucia streets

Following a lengthy review of the St Lucia Traffic Area, the BCC plans to extend the area of parking restrictions in the streets surrounding the St Lucia campus. After a couple of weeks’ grace period, the new parking regime will be enforced by infringement notices. More information is available by clicking here. A resident permit system will also be put in place.

What are Queensland’s icons?

Premier Anna Bligh has urged Queenslanders to vote on what they think are the State’s top 150 icons from a list of 300 potentials. Public voting begins today until Thursday, April 30. To register your vote, click here.

2009 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science

Australia’s Chief Scientist Professor Penny Sackett has encouraged nominations for the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science, Australia’s most important science and science teaching awards. Nominations for the prizes, ranging in worth from $50,000 to $300,0000, close on Friday, May 8, and can be made online. Details: pmprize@innovation.gov.au or 02 6276 1264.

International Women’s Day Fun Run/Walk

The event, now in its 18th year, is this year dedicated to the late long-distance runner Kerryn McCann with monies raised benefiting the Mater Breast Care Unit. The 5km run/walk begins at South Bank from 7am on Sunday, March 8. Details: click here.

2009 Vice-Chancellor’s Equity & Diversity Awards

The blood donormobile will be visiting the Student Union Plaza from 9am until 4pm daily, Monday, March 2, until Wednesday, March 11. To make an appointment, please call 3889 7333 prior to the visit or 0413 055 371 on the days. Every blood donation can save up to three lives.

The Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies will hold its annual commemorative Henry Mayer Lecture at 5.30pm on Thursday, March 12 in the UQ Art Museum. Professor Ien Ang from the University of Western Sydney will discuss the evolution of television. Details: 3346 7407.
