About
UniSafe
Take care... be aware
The
University of Queensland's UniSafe personal safety awareness
program, launched in 1992, is the first of its kind at an Australian
university.
UniSafe aims to maximise personal safety by promoting a
culture of awareness and community care. It urges staff, students
and visitors to make its campuses safer for everyone by
- recognising and consciously avoiding potentially risky situations,
and
- reporting any suspicious behaviour or incidents to Security.
The program seeks to achieve its two primary aims not by frightening
people, but by empowering them through knowledge of the problems
and ways to cope with them.
The focus is educational, and complements the efforts of the University's
Security Service, which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
UniSafe is managed by a committee that comprises students
and staff.
