Where exactly is Union College?

Union College is located on the St Lucia Campus of the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. The College is on the corner of Upland Road and Sir William Macgregor Drive, St. Lucia, 4067.

How do you get to Union College?

The easiest way to get to Union College is to catch a bus from Brisbane City (routes 411 and 412) directly to the University of Queensland. The College is a 5 minute walk from the Chancellor's Place Bus Stop, on Upland Road. The campus is also serviced by City Cat Ferries and additional bus routes which originate at a variety of locations across Brisbane. These services terminate a 10 minute walk away from the College. Can I stay during Semester Break, and does it cost extra?

Residents are welcome to remain at college during the vacation periods in the academic year. There are no additional accommodation costs.

Is there internet access and do I pay for downloads?

Every room at Union College is equipped with an internet connection. UQ students are allocated 400Mb of Internet Download per month. Additional Download Cards can be purchased from the college office if this allocation is exhausted.

How will I access meals if my classes clash with meal times?

Packed lunches and Early/Late Dinners can be arranged to fit in with your class times.

Do I need to bring bedding and pillows, etc from home?

You supply your own bedding, pillows and towels. Alternatively Linen Packs (which include 1 pillow, 2 pillow cases, 2 sheets, 2 towels and a light quilt with cover) can be purchased from the College.

Can I have Visitors?

Friends and family are welcome to visit you but, in the interests of Fire Safety and Child Protection legislation, are not permitted to stay overnight.

When should I apply for a place at Union College?

As demand for college places is strong, early applications are recommended. Applications for Union College close later in the year; however additional applications will be accepted depending upon vacancies.

Is it possible to apply for a place at Union College before being offered a place at University?

Yes, do not wait until you are offered a place at University.

Can I be a resident student at Union College if I am not studying at the University of Queensland?

The College does consider some applications from students attending other institutions on a case by case basis; however, preference is given to UQ applicants.

When are interviews held?

Applicants are invited to arrange Interviews as soon as is practicable after receiving confirmation that their application has been received by the College.

If I want to defer for a year, is it better to apply for a place at Union College now or in a year's time, when I return?

Early applications for placement within College are always sensible. Your place can be held for you and it is reassuring to know you don't have to make arrangements while you are overseas.

Can I move out in six months if I don't like it?

Residents sign a contract that commits them for an entire year (with the exception of some international students). Residents wishing to leave are responsible for fees until the room is taken by another approved resident.

Am I allowed to keep pets in my room at College?

No pets, including fish, are permitted in College rooms.
