About Union

Words from the Head of College

The University of Queensland Union College is an independent, co-educational residential College located on the St Lucia campus of The University of Queensland, Australia.

The College has, since its foundation in 1947, provided a secure and supportive environment where residents may pursue their academic endeavours, whilst at the same time, enjoying the wide range of cultural, sporting and social opportunities on offer.

Union College is conveniently located in very close proximity to the University campus. The heritage listed buildings and gardens offer facilities and services of a very high standard.  Every year, 334 undergraduate and post-graduate, domestic and international students call Union home. Individuals forge strong personal bonds and establish professional network opportunities through living and studying together.

The Resident Mentor Program is a critical component of the pastoral care of our residents.  The aim of the program is to provide experienced, friendly and engaging mentors for the residents of our community. R.M.’s are carefully selected for their ability to welcome, mentor and nurture young people, in particular, those who are entering their first year of University study.   Furthermore, the R.M. program seeks to enhance the academic, social, cultural and personal development aspirations of all residents, as well as encouraging the resident population to make sensible decisions about how to achieve their goals.

Union College provides an excellent tutorial program which is free-of-charge for residents. Individuals can access small group tutorial sessions which are held during the week in one of our purpose build, on-site tutorial facilities.

Union College is proud of its ethos of respect for equity, diversity and difference, where every individual can pursue their own academic goals and personal interests.  Our core values of personal accountability and always respecting others and being mindful of their needs has ensured a harmonious college community for many years.

Please call the College to arrange a tour with one of our friendly staff.  You will find a warm welcome awaits you.
