Internships
Internships provide you with an opportunity to develop your skills beyond the classroom and gain a competitive edge in the job market. The Office of Undergraduate Education is regularly informed of internship opportunities, and we have compiled this listing to help you identify professional development experiences.
Please note that while a range of internships are highlighted below, to be counted towards the UQ Advantage Award, student participation must be funded by a UQ Advantage Grant or faculty/school funding or the program coordinated by The University of Queensland.

The Office of Undergraduate Education, in collaboration with the UQ International Latin America strategy group, is coordinating a pilot internship program with a number of Latin American embassies in Canberra. The internships represent a fantastic opportunity for students who have an interest in Latin American culture and society, diplomacy, international relations and business.
Details
Dates: Between 17 June – 19 July, 2013
Duration: 3 – 4 weeks (internship dates and durations are flexible)
Location: Ecuadorian, Mexican, Peruvian and Cuban embassies in Canberra, Australia
The duties of the intern would include general office administration, executive support to the Ambassador, consular services, translation, event coordination and liaison with other Latin American embassies.
Grants
Please note that these are unpaid internships, but The Office of Undergraduate Education is offering $1,000 grants to four successful internship applicants. The grant will contribute to flights, accommodation and living costs. Students will need to be able to fund the remaining costs associated with the internship such as general living and accommodation expenses.
Who can participate
To be eligible to apply for the Latin America Internship Program, students must:
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or masters by coursework program at The University of Queensland and remain enrolled for the duration of the internship
- Undergraduate students must have completed at least one year study and masters students must have completed one full time semester or equivalent prior to applying
- Be able to travel to Canberra on the selected dates and organise and fund their own travel
- Respond to the selection criteria as outlined in the application form:
- Required: High academic achievement and an interest in Latin American culture and society, diplomacy, international relations and business
- Highly regarded: Experience in project and event management and strong Spanish language skills
How to apply
Students are required to submit an online application form with their responses to the selection criteria. The final selection of participants will be undertaken by a selection panel.
Applications close 4pm Friday 24 May, 2013. Late applications cannot be considered.

| English Language Assistantships in Spain - Spanish Ministry of Education |

This assistantship program is open to Australian nationals who have recently graduated or are completing their final year of undergraduate study. Students can have majored in any subject but will need some proficiency in Spanish. Program includes orientation and full medical experiences.
