Application Procedures
A prospective tutor should have completed at least two years of a relevant undergraduate degree, including a substantial proportion of second year core courses, with good results – ie a GPA of 5.0 or better – or equivalent qualifications or training.

Selection is on a combination of merit and School needs. Tutors appointed previously will only be re-appointed if prior performance has been satisfactory.

The on-line application form is at www.itee.uq.edu.au/~tutoring

Allocation of tutors to courses
Applicants are asked to indicate their study background, teaching experience and course preferences. This data, along with the preferences of course coordinators for experienced tutors, will be taken into account in matching tutors to courses. Senior academic staff of the School are appointed to make the allocations in consultation with teaching staff. Allocations occur before the beginning of semester, but are not necessarily final until Week 2 or Week 3 of semester. A tutor may see a reduction in his/her hours or be assigned to a different course. This does not reflect on the tutor involved: it is usually due to unresolved timetabling constraints or fluctuations in enrolments.

Employment and Payroll Forms
Tutors selected for appointment will be emailed, usually by the Wednesday preceding the first week of classes. The email will give all relevant instructions. A formal offer letter will follow.

Induction and Training
Tutor training is compulsory for all new tutors and recommended for continuing tutors as a refresher. The training session is usually a half day, held on the Friday before the first week of classes.
