- The policy contains information about the various activities for which tutors should receive payment.
Information for Scholarship holders and International Students
- In general, scholarship holders have employment restrictions, which may include a restriction on the number of paid hours worked.
- International students are not automatically given the right to work when they are issued with a student visa. For further information, please visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website.
- For further information on the specific conditions relating to other employment such as tutoring, see Employment and other funding on the UQ Graduate School site.
- Also see UQ Research Scholarships General Conditions for the full set of general conditions relating to scholarship tenure.
Employment and payroll information
- Schools are responsible for making sure that tutors get paid. To this end they provide forms for necessary information, such as tax file numbers and banking details. Schools either request this information from tutors with a letter offering a position or distribute forms during induction sessions
Superannuation
- Under a casual tutor appointment, if a tutor earns more than $450.00 in a calendar month, the University will pay a 9% superannuation contribution.
- Superannuation is provided under UniSuper Accumulation Super (1) membership.
- Tutors are not required to personally contribute to UniSuper, however they may voluntarily do so.
- For further information on superannuation, please contact UQ Employee Benefits Section on telephone extension 52968 or 54668.
Claiming Payment
- To claim payment, staff are required to submit a timesheet for hours worked. The lodgement of this form is required fortnightly.
- Pay day at UQ is every second Thursday. It takes at least two weeks for the University to process these forms so the first pay may take longer than two weeks to be deposited into the designated account.
