Icebreakers help a group of strangers get to know each other and encourage participation in group discussion.
As an icebreaker you could:
- Go around the group and ask each person to introduce themselves by saying:
- Their name
- What year they are in
- What course they are studying and
- What they hope to do when they finish their course.
- Go around the group and ask each person to introduce the person on their left. To do this, each person will need to ask:
- The person’s name
- What year they are in
- What course they are studying and
- What they hope to do when they finish their course.
- Go around the group and ask each person to complete the following sentence:
The highlight of my time at UQ has been ………………………………. because …………………………………..
Tips:
- Don’t forget to introduce yourself too!
- For the first couple of weeks, provide sticky labels for everyone to write their first name on.
