Icebreakers

Icebreakers help a group of strangers get to know each other and encourage participation in group discussion.

As an icebreaker you could:

  • Go around the group and ask each person to introduce themselves by saying:
    • Their name
    • What year they are in
    • What course they are studying and
    • What they hope to do when they finish their course.

  • Go around the group and ask each person to introduce the person on their left. To do this, each person will need to ask:
    • The person’s name
    • What year they are in
    • What course they are studying and
    • What they hope to do when they finish their course.

  • Go around the group and ask each person to complete the following sentence:
The highlight of my time at UQ has been ………………………………. because …………………………………..

    Tips:
    • Don’t forget to introduce yourself too!
    • For the first couple of weeks, provide sticky labels for everyone to write their first name on.
