An investigation into outpatient allied health therapy services for people with a neurological condition in rural and remote Queensland.
Rehabilitation therapy is an important service for clients with a neurological condition and can assist them to regain and maintain their independence and improve quality of life. While therapy services are readily available in metropolitan centres, the extent to which clients with a neurological condition who live in rural and remote areas of Queensland are able to access therapy is unknown. Information technology is a potential method by which these clients may be able to receive therapy services that they: 1) currently are unable to access and/or 2) have to travel long distances to receive.
The aim of this project is to identify what outpatient allied health therapy services are available for clients with a neurological condition in rural and remote Queensland, and the needs of therapists working with such clients. This information is not currently available, and it is hoped that the results of this study will enable effective planning for the use of information technology, particularly telerehabilitation applications, in this situation.
