ePAED measurements of static joint angles

The validity and reliability of a handheld digital measurement tool (ePAED) for the measurement of static joint angles.

Measuring angles of the joints of the human body is often required in physiotherapy. A new portable digital goniometer, called the ePAED, has been developed at The University of Queensland, Department of Physiotherapy. This tool uses a palm-sized PDA computer with a built-in camera to take an image of a joint and determine the angle present. Preliminary results show that this device has the potential to be a highly accurate and reliable tool and has promise as a clinical measurement tool. This project aims to provide conclusive evidence of the accuracy and reliability of this new tool at many common joints of the human body when compared to a gold standard measurement device: the Polhemus Fastrak system.
