Since 2009, the UQ Law School’s Pro Bono Centre has provided meaningful opportunities for law students to use their emerging legal skills to assist community legal centres (CLCs), law firms, barristers and not-for-profit organisations in their pro bono activities. This dynamic partnership between the UQ Pro Bono Centre and the Queensland legal profession has made an outstanding contribution to the quality and enhancement of students’ learning through initiatives such as the Clinical Legal Education Program, which gives students the opportunity to work in CLCs to provide direct legal assistance to disadvantaged individuals; the Manning St Project, which enables students to participate in public interest legal research under the supervision of legal professionals; the Pro Bono Roster, which facilitates flexible pro bono placements for students; and the High Schools Program, which utilises the skills and passion of law students to develop and deliver community legal education sessions to secondary students.
