BA(Hons), PhD Qld.

Jonathan Prangnell is a leading Australian historical archaeologist and cultural heritage practitioner who brings his passion for, and love of, archaeology to his teaching. He is devoted to developing educational pathways that take budding archaeologists from primary and secondary school through university to the cultural heritage industry. His on-going commitment to best practice in archaeology and cultural heritage leads to his commercial involvement in many large scale development projects in southeast Queensland. He brings these current, real-life cases to his teaching so that students have the opportunity to creatively and critically solve problems and develop knowledge at the cutting edge of archaeological and cultural heritage thought and practice. Drawing on his extensive experience with high exposure consultancy projects Jonathan has developed a range of innovative courses in archaeological methods, historical archaeology and cultural heritage management that apply problem based learning in fieldwork situations. This enhances both individual and cohort development that consistently achieves high student satisfaction ratings and increased employment prospects. He uses similar supportive approaches in mentoring Honours and research higher degree students that result in very strong outcomes for these students.
