STUDENT SURVEY OUTCOMES

By initiating, listening and responding to feedback from students about their University experience and, specifically, about the quality of teaching, programs and courses, UQ aims to improve the quality of the learning experience for current and future students. Feedback is sourced from a number of in-house and Australia-wide surveys, focus groups and more formal review processes.

UQ Student Experience Survey (UQSES)

The UQSES is conducted biennially.  The survey aims to assess students' perceptions of teaching, program and course quality; the acquisition and development of graduate attributes; the quality of teaching and learning facilities, resources and services; and the quality of general facilities, resources and services.

The survey is administered to:

  • first year undergraduate students;
  • final year undergraduate (including honours) students; and
  • postgraduate coursework students.

The survey has been administered in 2001, 2003 and, most recently, in 2007.

UQSES Reports are available to staff via the MIS Reportal under Students --> Survey --> UQSES

Institutional course evaluation (iCEVAL)

Student feedback is also sought using the iCEVAL instrument.  iCEVAL was implemented for the first time in semester 2, 2003.   The one-page iCEVAL survey comprises questions that focus on the link between the features of the course and student learning. The iCEVAL instrument is applied each semester to no more than one-sixth of the courses in a program or sequence of study administered by a School. By the end of a three year cycle, all courses in a program/sequence of study will have been evaluated. This timetable allows these evaluations to inform the triennial program assessment phase of the curriculum review process.

iCEVAL Reports are available to staff via the MIS Reportal under Students --> Survey --> iCEVAL

Australian Graduate Survey (AGS)

Graduate Careers Australia is the coordinating body for the national survey of graduate destinations, the Australian Graduate Survey (AGS).  The components of the AGS are the Graduate Destination Survey (GDS), Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) and the Postgraduate Research Experience Questionnaire (PREQ).  These surveys are administered by the University of Queensland under the auspices of Graduate Careers Australia.

The data is used by UQ and government agencies to measure our performance against other Australian universities.  In particular, results from the CEQ comprise one of the major indicators influencing the allocation of Learning and Teaching Performance Funds.

Annual Student Feedback Report

These reports combine the student survey feedback results obtained using the Institutional Course Evaluation (iCEVAL), Teaching Evaluation (TEVAL), Course Quality Scale (CQS, from the UQSES), and the Australasian Survey of Student Engagement (AUSSE).
