In 1988 the Awards for Teaching Excellence (formerly Awards for Excellence in Teaching) were inaugurated by The Academic Board of the University to reward University teachers who had been recognised by their students and their peers for sustained excellence in teaching. Nomination is open to academic staff with Teaching Focussed or Teaching and Research appointments.

To enhance opportunities for national recognition of outstanding teachers at the University of Queensland the Procedures for the UQ Awards for Teaching Excellence  align with those of the Office of Learning and Teaching (OLT) Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT).

Nominations are closed for the 2013 UQ Awards for Teaching Excellence.
