2012 Applications and Guidelines now available

The University of Queensland Early Career, Scholarship of Teaching & Learning, (EC-SoTL) Scheme is a means by which the University provides resources to new Teaching Focused staff to assist them to build a profile in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. The scheme is funded by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

This scheme mirrors Early Career Research Grants that are available for Research Only and Teaching and Research staff members. Early Career Research Grants are administered through the Research and Innovation Division and details can be found on their website.

The aims of the Scheme are:

  • to encourage new members of staff, and existing staff members transferring to a TF position, to engage in the scholarship of teaching and learning;
  • to identify teaching and learning issues, within or across disciplines, and facilitate an approach to addressing these issues;
  • to initiate the development of a project or program that could later attract external funding (e.g. from the Office of Learning and Teaching);
  • to support, on a competitive basis, high quality teaching and learning projects of modest financial cost.

Funding available: a maximum of $15,000 per project

Eligibility: An Early Career Scholar (ECS) is someone who is, at the time of application, within his/her first eight years of teaching employment in either a teaching-focused or similar appointment at another university, allowing for uninterrupted, stable academic development.

Application closing date:  Monday, 3 September 2012

Full eligibility requirements, selection criteria and selection process are detailed in the scheme guideline.

Dissemination Resources

The ALTC funded a project in late 2009 to determine to what extent the promoted dissemination strategies had led to the effective dissemination and consolidation of outcomes of completed ALTC Grants Scheme projects.  A key outcome of the project was the development of a range of resources to support dissemination activities for future applicants. A guide has been developed to assist staff to plan and undertake effective dissemination and is a highly recommended for prospective and successful applicants:
