Dr April Wright teaches a large first-year management course in the undergraduate business programs at UQ. With eighteen years of’ teaching experience, she makes the study of management relevant and rigorous through interactive lectures, engaging tutorials, and research assignments that allow for experiential learning and reflection. A leader in the field of management education, Dr Wright has pioneered the use of threshold concepts in course design as well as a team-based tutorial strategy that motivates students to prepare, participate, and learn progressively and collaboratively throughout the semester. Dr Wright’s innovative approaches to course design, classroom teaching, and assessment have inspired students to engage with management theory and practice as independent learners. These approaches have also supported the development of a diverse student cohort as future business practitioners who operate in insightful, socially responsible and culturally sensitive ways. Having completed a UQ Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, Dr Wright is actively involved in the scholarship of teaching and learning through publication in international journals, presentations at conferences and professional development workshops, and editorship of a special issue of a management education journal.
