As part of the Bachelor of Social Work, Tricia undertook field experience assignments at two community organisations:  Logan Women's Health Centre, where she was involved in project work and community development and WAVSS (Working Against Violence Support Service), performing crisis intervention, counselling and group work.

The studies that she completed enabled her to gain a position as  Assistant Coordinator of the POWER (Parents Overcoming Work and Education Restrictions) Program at Mabel Park SHS.

The job is challenging and Tricia is faced with many issues confronting teenage parents that are attending school to finish their senior education.  Her role involves the coordination, development and promotion of the program, case management, support, advocacy and liasion between students and school staff.

"I deal with discrimination and stigmatisation of teenage parents.  I help students to stay on track with school work while they have a myriad of personal challenges to overcome."
