The School of Social Work and Human Services has a strong history of supervising research higher degree students in ground breaking theoretical, practice and policy research. Our multidisciplinary school currently has approximately 70 PhD and Masters of Philosophy students researching in many areas linked to our research, policy and practice strengths in:

  • Children,Young People and Families
  • Welfare, Policy and Administration
  • Ageing
  • Community Development and Engagement
  • Health
  • Social Work and Human Services Practice

We supervise students using a wide variety of quantitative, qualitative and critical social science methodological approaches. We have collaborative research and supervision relationships with UQ Research Centres such as the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI); the Australasian Centre for Ageing (ACA) and the Australia Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (ACPACS).

The RHD program in SWAHS provides research leadership and a strong research culture, an engaged student group and access to experienced advisory teams. Current students come from varied backgrounds with diverse interests and include a growing representation of international and Indigenous students.  Our lively, productive student group are presenting at national and international conferences and beginning to publish as they seek to make a contribution to building or challenging current knowledge within their fields of interest.

A research higher degree in SWAHS will assist you in developing and demonstrating:
