Sustainability is just one word and yet has invoked hundreds of definitions.

A widely accepted definition of sustainability is to " the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (Brundtland Commission, 1987).

Sustainability is not solely about environmental stewardship, although many people use the terms sustainability and environmental sustainability synonymously. As the graphic demonstrates, the social and economic dimensions are equally important.
