Information technology

UQ recognises IT is an integral part of study, and provides students with a range of IT and online services.

All UQ students are provided with a free UQconnect Internet account, which allows Internet access and email from on-campus or home via dial-up. A range of other online services is available, including:

  • free national dial-up through UQconnect, UQ’s own ISP. This allows dial-up access to the Internet from anywhere in Australia for the cost of a local call
  • free email with all students receiving an official UQ email address that can be accessed anywhere in the world via my.UQ (for more information on the my.UQ student portal, see below)
  • on-campus Internet access, available throughout all UQ campuses via one of the fastest information networks in the world. The UQconnect Wireless Network is also available at many common student areas
  • discounted Internet with students receiving significantly discounted rates for full service Internet accounts through UQconnect
  • discounted hardware and software for UQ students when purchasing computers through UQconnect Portable Computing
  • my.UQ, a personalised portal to online student services. This portal can be used to check email and personal student records, study resources and calendars
  • mySI-net, a valuable resource enabling students to enrol in courses, and providing information such as lecture material, tutorial notes, discussion groups and class timetables
  • Ask I.T., providing free computing help and training for students
  • a HelpDesk providing telephone and online IT support seven days a week, and
  • UQ’s Information Technology Services (ITS) provides the IT infrastructure at UQ, and one of the most advanced networks in Australia, connecting more than 18,000 on-campus computers.
