Animal Welfare, Behaviour & Handling ANIM1014
Everyone who works with animals is interested in these three topics – the welfare, behaviour and handling of their animals. In fact, the three are inextricably linked and so it makes good sense to study them together. This course provides a good basic understanding of animal welfare and behaviour and of how they can be studied, assessed and recorded, and then how we can use this knowledge to better handle and care for our animals. Consequently this is a very practical course. In addition to the lectures all students are taught how to observe, record and interpret animal behaviour in the context of human/animal interface, and are given the opportunity to handle a wide range of domestic animals appropriately and safely. These include horses, pigs, poultry, sheep, cattle, rats and mice.

Firms, Communities and Social Responsibility ENVM2524
This course focuses on environmental and business ethics, environmental history, environmental management, corporate social responsibility, environmentalism and pro-environmental behaviour and total responsibility management (with emphasis on environmental compliance and environmental management systems).
The course also examines the responsibilities of the firm in the context of the needs of its stakeholders; particularly from the point of view of the expectations of those stakeholders that relate to the firm's obligations to the natural environment. Systems of environmental compliance and environmental management are also reviewed.
The course includes field trips to businesses and has a focus on how environment is integrated with business and social factors to achieve sustainable outcomes.

"I knew that I wanted to work with animals and Australia has some of the most unique wildlife on the planet so it seemed like a natural place to start. The staff at the Gatton campus were fantastic. I have been involved in such a wide variety of projects and learnt so much during my time here. I will never forget my time at Gatton, I’ve had experiences and met friends that will be with me for a lifetime."
