Students wishing to improve their English language and academic study skills can undertake intensive English language and academic communication training at the University’s Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education (ICTE-UQ).

Programs at ICTE-UQ are offered as stand-alone English language courses or taken prior to a UQ program. To qualify for admission to degree programs at UQ, students must meet minimum English language entry requirements

Package offers comprising English Language Studies plus the principal UQ program may be available to students where the only outstanding requirement for admission is English.

ICTE-UQ is government-registered and accredited by the National ELT Accreditation Scheme (NEAS). It is a member of the national association English Australia, and is an approved International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) Administration Centre for Brisbane.

ICTE-UQ services include airport reception, assistance with homestay accommodation, and organisation of social and recreational activities. Group study tours combining language, tourist and specialised activities are also available on request. Full-time English language training programs at various levels are detailed in the table below. General English (GE)
General English is designed for students who want to improve their English in social and work situations. General English also provides students with a solid foundation to progress to English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or other special purposes courses.
Seven levels from Pre-elementary to Advanced St Lucia There are no entry requirements for General English programs. Students are tested on the first day of their program to determine their level of study. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 or 45 weeks
English for Specific Purposes: Bridging English Program

The ESP:BEP is an English language entry pathway to UQ degree program study for eligible students.
Students who successfully meet all ESP:BEP exit requirements do not need to sit an IELTS test to gain entry to their UQ degree.
Advanced St Lucia For UQ degree programs requiring IELTS 6.5 (W6) / IBTOEFL 90 (W21): IELTS 6.0 (no score less than 5.5) / IBTOEFL 83 (no score less than 19) 10 weeks
For UQ programs requiring IELTS 7.0 (sub-bandscores as specified): ESP:BEP entry requirements determined on a case by case basis
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
EAP provides specialised language and academic skills needed for tertiary study and preparation for the IELTS test.
EAP I Higher intermediate St Lucia IELTS 5.0 (no score less than 5.0) 5 (January only), 10 or 20 weeks
EAP II - Advanced St Lucia IELTS 5.5 (no score less than 5.5) 5 (January only), 10 or 20 weeks
EAP III - Advanced Ipswich (subject to demand) 5 (January) or 10 weeks (May and October)
Advanced English Communication Skills (AECS)
AECS helps highly proficient students to further develop fluency and communicative competence, particularly in speaking and listening.
Advanced St Lucia IELTS 5.5 (6.0 in speaking and listening, 5.5 in reading and writing 5, 10, 15 or 20 weeks
English for International Business Communication (EIBC)
EIBC develops communication skills for studies or careers in international business and related areas.
EIBC I - Higher intermediate St Lucia IELTS 5.0 (no score less than 5.0) 5, 10, 15 or 20 weeks
EIBC II Advanced St Lucia IELTS 5.5 (no score less than 5.5) 5, 10, 15 or 20 weeks
English for Specific Purposes: Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESP: TESOL)
ESP: TESOL is designed for non-native English speakers who are either interested in learning more about TESOL or who are practising English language teachers.
ESP:TESOL I St Lucia IELTS 5.0 (5.0 in speaking and writing) 5 weeks
ESP:TESOL  II - Advanced St Lucia IELTS 5.0 (5.5 in speaking and writing) 5 weeks
English for Specific Purposes: Tourism & Hospitality (ESP:T&H) ESP:T&H is designed to develops English language skills for work in tourism, travel and hospitality industries. ESP: T&H I - Higher Intermediate St Lucia IELTS 5.0 (5.5 in speaking and writing) 5 weeks
Academic Communication Skills (ACS)
ESP:ACS provides students with the specialised communication and academic skills required for successful study at The University of Queensland. It is offered before Orientation each University semester and provided at no additional cost to UQ International students.
 Advanced St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton (subject to demand) Evidence of acceptance into UQ degree program 3 weeks
English for Academic Communication (EAC)
EAC is a part-time concurrent support program designed for non-native speakers of English who are attending degree programs at the University and who need assistance with their English language skills. This course is provided at no additional cost to UQ International students.
 Advanced St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton (subject to demand) Enrolment in a UQ degree program 24 hours of tuition over 8 weeks; available during first and second semesters
