Students wishing to improve their English language and academic study skills can undertake intensive English language and academic communication training at the University’s Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education (ICTE-UQ).

Programs at ICTE-UQ are offered as stand-alone English language courses or taken prior to a UQ program. To qualify for admission to degree programs at UQ, students must meet minimum English language entry requirements.

Package offers comprising English Language Studies plus the principal UQ program may be available to students where the only outstanding requirement for admission is English.

ICTE-UQ is government-registered and accredited by the National ELT Accreditation Scheme (NEAS). It is a member of the national association English Australia, and is an approved International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) Administration Centre for Brisbane.

ICTE-UQ services include airport reception, assistance with homestay accommodation, and organisation of social and recreational activities. Group study tours combining language, tourist and specialised activities are also available on request. Full-time English language training programs at various levels are detailed in the table below. General English also provides students with a solid foundation to progress to English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or other special purposes courses. Academic Communication Skills (ACS) ESP:ACS provides students with the specialised communication and academic skills required for successful study at The University of Queensland. It is offered before Orientation each University semester and provided at no additional cost to UQ International students.
