Scholarship Applications Now Open

UQ Undergraduate Scholarships

Did you know that UQ has one of the most generous scholarship offerings of any Australian university? Year 12 students considering study at UQ are reminded to investigate the wide variety of scholarships on offer from UQ by visiting the UQ Scholarships website. Academic, equity, sporting, faculty, overseas study, area of study (including ICT and Economics) and Gatton and Ipswich campus scholarships are available. In view of a growing shortage of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) graduates, UQ is encouraging and enabling school-leavers to join programs leading to careers in the information and communications technology industry. Year 12 students entering programs in Information Technology, Multimedia Design or Engineering (Software or Computer Systems) can apply. Find out more

UQ Enhanced Studies Program

The UQ Enhanced Studies Program (ESP) allows high achieving Year 12 students to ‘test drive’ university life. Students accepted into the program can study one university course (subject) during Semester One of Year 12. ESP applications for 2010 will close on Friday, 23 October 2009. Find out more

Health – A Career with Purpose

New courses to get the heart racing in 2010

Archaeology staff and students in Turkish Odyssey

UQ Archaeologists spent time in Turkey in June and July attending excavations at a number of important sites. Archaeology lecturer Dr Andy Fairbairn led a field and research team at Kaman Kalehoyuk, home of the Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology, to investigate Bronze and Iron Age agriculture in the site and its environments. More women engineers at UQ this year

The 2009 academic year has seen UQ welcome its largest ever female undergraduate engineering students. In Semester One, 200 female undergraduate students enrolled in UQ’s Bachelor of Engineering foundation course, making up more than one fifth of the course enrolment. Find out more

UQ Science rainmakers enter international competition

Two UQ Science students are part of a team aiming to prove you don't need to perform a rain dance to encourage the clouds to open. The team, made up of UQ undergraduate students, have entered the International Genetically Engineered Machine (IGEM) competition, requiring them to design a research project and build a biological machine. Eyes on the prize and head in the stars

What began as a nationwide contest to encourage an interest in astronomy has ended with a tour of one of the world’s largest telescopes in Hawaii, all without leaving Brisbane. Students from Forest Lake College in Brisbane’s south, recently travelled to UQ for a video link up to the Gemini North Telescope’s remote control room in Hawaii.
