The Commonwealth Government's Indigenous Scholarship program aims to improve access to higher education for low-income indigenous students, particularly those who need to relocate from a regional or remote area to undertake higher education.
 
Indigenous Access Scholarships (IAS) are provided as a once-in-a-lifetime payment and will be valued at $4,659 in 2013. Although preference will be given to Indigenous students who will be commencing study at UQ in 2013, current students may also apply.  
 
IAS recipients will also be considered for one of the following scholarships:
  • Indigenous Education Costs Scholarship valued at $2,469 per year for up to 4 years to assist with the start up costs of attending university. 
  • Indigenous Accommodation Scholarships valued at $4,939 per year for up to 4 years for students needing to move away from their regional/remote home in order to study at university.
