Why study the Graduate Certificate in Journalism?
The Graduate Certificate in Journalism caters for existing journalists who wish to update or broaden their qualifications and for graduates from other disciplines who wish to master the basic principles and practices of journalism. This program gives an introduction to journalism theory and practice. Students will develop professional skills in journalistic research and investigation, news gathering and news writing. They will gain an understanding of the legal and ethical frameworks in which journalism operates, and will learn how to apply journalistic principles to contemporary newsroom practice. Journalism graduates will find career opportunities in a wide range of print and broadcast media organisations, in Australia and overseas.

What you can do with a Graduate Certificate in Journalism
Careers
Journalism graduates will find career opportunities in a wide range of print and broadcast media organisations, in Australia and overseas. New career opportunities exist for journalists in the growing area of online communications. Past graduates are employed in metropolitan, national and regional newspapers, commercial radio and television stations, web and multimedia publications, as well as in allied fields of publishing, marketing, communications and public relations. Some choose to be self-employed and work as freelance journalists and photojournalists.
While this degree may be accredited by an official industry accreditation body in Australia, completion of the degree may not result in graduates receiving automatic accreditation. Please contact the relevant registration body for details of any conditions for accreditation.

To complete the Graduate Certificate in Journalism
To complete the Graduate Certificate in Journalism, a student must complete a requisite number of courses chosen from the course list and according to the Rules for the program.
Students should be aware of the University of Queensland rules, particularly the General Award Rules, which govern the conduct of UQ programs. Students will find a link to the General Award Rules, and other University rules, on the University Rules page.
A student is required to obtain #8 from the GCJ List. Refer to GCJ rules for further information.
