Indicative annual fee: AUD$ 22650
Indicative annual fees are calculated on the basis of two full-time semesters only. Actual annual fees may vary in accordance with your choices of majors and electives and whether you study in Summer Semester. Tuition fees are indexed each year. The indexation rate is fixed 18 months in advance of a particular academic year thereby allowing you to plan your finances ahead of time. The University's intent is that fee rate increases will be kept to a minimum and that indexation rates will remain stable wherever possible. Since 2007 the indexation rate has remained at or less than 4%.

Why study the Bachelor of Social Science?
A Bachelor of Social Science teaches students how to develop strategies to help find solutions to a range of social issues at the local, national and international level. Graduates are equipped with key skills valuable to employers such as problem solving, effective written and oral communication, information processing, creative and critical thinking, cross-cultural awareness, social research skills and computer literacy. Courses provide you with knowledge and skills related to social issues, how to identify and analyse social concerns and problems, develop positions on social issues and propose possible interventions.
The degree is a unique and innovative program that gives students expertise in social science research design and implementation. Students gain knowledge and skills for employment in areas such as public policy design and evaluation; social impact assessment; social planning and the analysis of socio-economic issues in a wide range of contexts.
What you can study
The program is comprised of a research core, a major area of study and elective courses. Third year students undertake a supervised research project that is linked with an industry partner, and gain experience in the real world of social science research. Students can also pursue individual interests through a range of study plans.

Program Rules and Requirements
To complete the Bachelor of Social Science
To complete the Bachelor of Social Science, a student must complete a requisite number of courses chosen from the course list and according to the Rules for the program.
Students should be aware of the University of Queensland rules, particularly the General Award Rules, which govern the conduct of UQ programs. Students will find a link to the General Award Rules, and other University rules, on the University Rules page.
A student is required to obtain #48 comprising:
- #18 of compulsory core courses from the BSocSc list;
- #12 of courses from one of the majors; and
- #18 of elective courses which could consist of minors or other courses on the BSocSc list or any other undergraduate course
- At least #28 must be at advanced level.
