As an urban horticulturist you will design and manage urban landscapes, which include familiar green spaces such as parks, gardens and sporting fields, but in the future will include innovations such as green walls and roofs (which reduce both stormwater runoff and the urban heat island effect).

You will gain understanding of the ecological, socio-cultural, biological and environmental factors which improve and enhance daily life in cities, as well as develop the skills to manage the revegetation and restoration of damaged landscapes.

You can find employment in design and planning, business or scientific research roles in:

• horticulture, specialising in urban soils and growing media and plant selection for landscape architects
• residential landscape design and management
• urban park management.
