Bachelor of Biotechnology ‘I was inspired to study in Australia, by my desire to meet different people, and to see the opportunities presented to me by an entirely new and different multicultural country. The University of Queensland (UQ) is known for its prestigious reputation, and hence it occurred to me that it would be an ideal environment to pursue my academia, whilst being able to make new friends and meet different people from various ethnic backgrounds. ‘Due to UQ’s reputation, it has attracted a community of enthusiastic and performing academics, as part of the teaching staff, not to mention the top class scientific facilities and resources. ‘Part of what I love about my degree is the privilege of using all kinds of facilities and resources available in all courses studied. The time which I spent using these facilities has enhanced my learning experience by providing an in-depth understanding of various techniques explained in lectures. ‘As I am completing my honours degree whilst working at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), I believe that this extra work experience at such a profound facility, along with the knowledge I’ve gained throughout my degree, will enhance my chances in securing a job in the future. ‘In the 3 years that I have been in UQ, I have been quite involved in campus life at UQ. Currently, I am living at International House, one of the 10 residential colleges situated on the St Lucia campus. International House has since become my home, in which I have become friends with people from all over the world. ‘What I love most about living in Australia is the standard of living. Compared to my home country, Australia is a very relaxed and laid-back place. Australia’s multicultural society has provided an amiable environment which is hard to not love.’ |
