“I had always heard and read about Australia and I knew it was a place I wanted to visit. When the opportunity for the (AusAID) scholarship for study came up, I considered several universities in Australia and UQ was the one I felt offered the best opportunity for me to develop my skills in community interaction and development.
“I have found that the method of teaching is different from the one I am used to and the efforts of the lecturers to encourage interaction between students. I now have a good understanding of community development and I have a great appreciation of the importance of the community’s involvement in decisions for development and this is a skill I intend to put to good use.
“Most of my courses have had hands-on aspects. I have had to plan and implement training programs, make presentations to groups of people, carry out interviews for qualitative and quantitative studies and carry out group observations. This experience has built my confidence when interacting with the public and has given me the hands-on experience of planning and implementing a project.
“All the services UQ provides for its students are intended to make sure that students are comfortable and progressing well in their studies and their lives. I would like to advise students to seek help in any situation because all the services are available and people are there who are willing and able to help.
“The experience of living in Australia has been a once in a lifetime one. I have enjoyed it immensely and made so many friends as well as learned the Australian culture. I have loved living here and I will treasure it always.”
