'I chose to study in Australia because my family and I saw its advantages over countries such as the UK, USA and Canada; the education is of high standard and much cheaper than all the named countries. Moreover the living expenses are relatively cheaper. I also specifically chose Queensland because a family friend spoke highly of this state.
‘My major in development, is far more than what I had expected. It has exposed me to contemporary issues in our world today and instilled within me a passion for change. These issues preside mainly within developing countries, for example poverty, inequalities, governance and so on.
'I believe my studies will help me get a job because of the wide variety I feel I am getting in my first year courses, this variety that will establish me as a multi-skilled and learned person. Furthermore there is a lot of choice in my degree, thus I can tailor my degree to suit my interests.
'I have made some wonderful friends here and right from the start I felt at home. There were times when I felt home sick but those times were few and short. I enjoy being able to work part-time and continue to study full-time.
'In my first semester I joined a dancing social event on Wednesday as well as playing tennis with the Indonesian club. I enjoyed both immensely and continue to play tennis.
'If you are struggling with what to study, I believe UQ is a flexible university which allows you to choose from a number of courses, moreover the student advisors are brilliant at helping you choose and structure your course. It’s also an inclusive place where you will meet diverse and friendly people.'
