This publication explains the application and entry procedures for undergraduate programs.
Entry to most programs at UQ is competitive, with the number of applicants exceeding the number of places available however, do not let this deter you from considering UQ as an option. You may already be qualified for entry on the basis of your existing qualifications or you may be able to undertake further studies to improve your eligibility. Entry options will help you determine your best pathway for gaining entry to the program of your choice at UQ. If you have qualifications which are not covered in this publication or if you are unsure how the information covered here applies to you, please contact UQ Admissions.
Senior External Examinations (PDF)
This leaflet outlines how the Senior External Examinations may be used to meet entry requirements.
The Senior External Examination allows you to obtain Queensland Year 12 level qualifications without attending high school as an internal student. Senior External Examination subjects are based on the Year 11 and 12 syllabus but are studied over one year. Assessment is based on a final end-of-year examination for each subject.
Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation (CATP) (PDF)
This leaflet describes how the Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation (CATP) may be used to meet entry requirements. This program can be completed over one year full-time or two to four years part-time. The course offers Year 12 comparable subjects for adult learners wishing to enter tertiary study. It is offered on campus at various TAFE institutes throughout Queensland (as well as at some private providers), and is also available via distance education through TAFE Open Learning.
UQ College Tertiary Preparation Program (PDF)
This leaflet describes how the Tertiary Preparation Program at UQ College may be used to meet entry requirements. The Tertiary Preparation Program is a 28 week full-time program offered on campus at UQ College in Ipswich.

This leaflet provides information on the subjects from approved bridging programs that may be used to meet subject prerequisites.
General Certificate of Education (GCE) (PDF)
This leaflet outlines how UQ assesses GCE Advanced Level (A levels), Advanced Supplementary or Advanced Subsidiary (AS Level) subjects for the purpose of meeting entry requirements.
International Baccalaureate (IB) (PDF)
This leaflet provides information on using the IB Diploma to meet entry requirements. Individual IB subjects may be used for meeting subject prerequisites.
South African Senior Certificate (PDF)
This leaflet includes information on using the South African Senior Certificate and the National Senior Certificate from the Joint matriculation Board of South African for meeting entry requirements. Generally subjects completed at Higher Grade are required to meet subject prerequisite requirements.
New Zealand NCEA Level 3 (PDF)
This leaflet provides information on using the New Zealand NCEA Level 3 to meet entry requirements.
Non-English Speaking Background Applicants (PDF)
If your first language is not English and you have completed your studies in a language other than English you are required to demonstrate English Language proficiency when applying to UQ. This leaflet provides information on how UQ’s English language proficiency and English subject prerequisite requirements may be met.
