English language studies and IELTS at UQ
Applicants wishing to increase their English proficiency may undertake intensive English language studies at the University's on-campus Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education (ICTE-UQ) and sit for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test on completion of these studies.

As an alternative to the IELTS test, ICTE-UQ has recently announced its new English for Specific Purposes: Bridging English Program (ESP:BEP).

The ESP:BEP is a new English language pathway designed and delivered by ICTE-UQ for entry into UQ’s undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

This program aims to develop the English language skills of eligible students to the required level for entry to their UQ degree. Students who successfully meet all ESP:BEP exit requirements will not need to sit an IELTS test at the end of the course.

For further information on the ESP:BEP and other English Language Studies Programs, please email tesol.enrol@icte.uq.edu.au or visit www.icte.uq.edu.au.

Student visa requirements
Students who satisfy the University’s English language proficiency requirements may still need to meet additional student visa requirements for English proficiency, as required by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
DIAC will not accept a TOEFL score for students from some countries, and may require an IELTS test result to process a student visa application. For more information, students should check with:
their local Australian Diplomatic Mission or the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
