Improving entry ranks

There are a number of options available to applicants to gain a more competitive entry rank for tertiary admissions. The pathway ultimately chosen will depend on existing qualifications and the competitiveness of the desired program. Possible pathways include:

  • Repeating Year 12 at a secondary school in Australia or a recognised secondary matriculation program overseas;
  • Completing Senior External Examination subjects through Queensland Studies Authority;
  • Completing  bridging studies (e.g. Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation);
  • Undertaking diploma or advanced diploma studies;
  • Applying on the basis of Alternative Entry provisions through QTAC;
  • Accepting a place in another, less competitive bachelor degree program and completing at least one full-time year of study. This process is called upgrading.

For more information, including the maximum entry ranks attainable for these pathways, please consult the University's Entry options publication (PDF) or contact UQ Admissions.
