Alternative pathways to entry
Satisfying subject prerequisites
Students who gained a sufficient OP/rank but do not satisfy all the prerequisites for entry to their preferred program have several options:
- completing the required subject(s) in the Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation (CATP), Senior External Examinations or other acceptable bridging courses. For details, please see the information in the Entry options publication. You will find information about, and links to, these documents on the Admissions leaflets and publications page. Or
- picking up prerequisites by completing approved courses in another bachelor level program. For more information, please contact UQ Admissions.
Improving entry scores
There are a number of options available to applicants who have completed Year 12 and have passed prerequisite courses but need to improve their entry rank:
- repeating year 12 at a secondary school in Australia or a recognised secondary matriculation program overseas;
- completing Senior External Examination subjects through Queensland Studies Authority
- accepting a place in an alternative (ie less competitive) tertiary program (bachelor level) and completing at least one full-time year of study. Once you have completed one year of full-time tertiary study, a new entry rank will be calculated using your grade point average (GPA). This process of improving your entry score is called upgrading.
- Successfully completing an approved bridging program if you have not previously completed at least one full year of bachelor or higher level study.
Please see information in the Entry options publication for further details.
