Course description
This course covers several themes aimed at providing students with an understanding of the: variety of conceptions of health and of development, and how they are measured; fundamentals of the demographic and epidemiological transitions and the bi-directional interactions between health and development; social, economic and political components of development and their specific interactions with disease, mortality and fertility; a wide perspective on the determinants of health and disease, and health improvement in the international context; and, an understanding of the organisations and individuals working in international health and their strengths and weaknesses. This course may not be offered if the enrolment is less than 10 students.
