Course description

Preparation for Paramedic Practice 2 will build on the foundational knowledge gained in Preparation for Paramedic Practice 1 (PMDC1102) and will further prepare students with information relevant to their role as a paramedic. The aim of this course is to provide students with practical knowledge that will enable them to function as an effective team member whilst on clinical placement. Students will practice safe patient lifting & moving (manual handling) techniques. Students will further their knowledge of the function and application of standard ambulance patient care equipment, and will be taught how to utilise this equipment as part of the patient care process. Students will also gain experience in the use of the ambulance communication equipment such as the mobile data terminal and radio, and will be taught correct radio procedure and terminology. Students will be introduced to common medical and traumatic conditions encountered in paramedic practice, including clinical presentation, assessment and basic management of selected conditions.
