Course description

Provides an in-depth study of the ways in which tort law ensures accountability and compensates for injury caused by the wrongful use of state powers. Covers state immunity, misfeasance in public office, false imprisonment, and public body negligence in key areas of social regulation and welfare provision such as policing, public health and safety, immigration detention and the protection of the mentally ill.
