Course description

This final placement for human services students will provide students with an orientation to the human services industry and the organisational context of practice. Students undertake 250 hours of placement (approx 36 days or 3 days per week over 12 weeks) in an industry placement throughout the semester and will experience profession training under the supervision of an experienced practitioner preparing students for employment. The course enables students to refine their assessment; intervention and practice frameworks in preparation for practice. In addition to the mandatory university workshops, which are conducted through the semester, students devise a personalised learning plan with their supervisor and undertake assessment tasks which require students to reflect on their emerging professional identity, professional and ethical conduct, frameworks for practice and suitability for different areas of human services practice. For students on overseas, rural or interstate placements, there will be provision for the mandatory workshops to be undertaken on Skype. Enrolment in this course is restricted to students who have completed the required re-requisites; permission to enrol will be arranged by the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work.shortly before the beginning of semester. Students wishing to undertake this course need to contact the Field Education unit around the middle of first semester. Supplementary assessment is not available for this course.
