Course description
Understanding leadership and management is fundamental to ensuring future leaders can positively influence nursing or midwifery practice and health outcomes within their area of specialty practice. This course provides students with the opportunity to critically analyse contemporary models and frameworks for leadership and management; examine leadership and management concepts, issues and challenges and their impact on nursing or midwifery practice with specific reference to an area of specialty; and examine the impact of political, economic, socio-cultural influences on contemporary management and leadership, and leadership/management styles and behaviours. Concepts and skills such as power, autonomy, empowerment, clinical decision making, mentoring and coaching will also be examined. This course may not be offered internally if the enrolment is less than 8 students.
