Course description

This course examines the history of Europe in the High Middle Ages, with a particular concentration on the regions of modern-day France, Spain, Italy, England, Germany, and the Low Countries. Our focus will be on various personalities and ideas that contributed to the shaping of Christendom ¿ the political, cultural and geographical identity on which modern-day `Europe¿ was founded. The subjects we will examine include feudalism, state formation, Church Reform, monasticism, the Crusading movement, the Twelfth-Century Renaissance, urbanization, and law. This course may not run if there are fewer than 20 enrolments.
