Course description

This course explores environmental issues in Asia since the late nineteenth century to the present day, using an historical approach to enable students to gain a better understanding of the tensions between economic growth and environmental protection since the late nineteenth century through to the present day. By examining a range of case studies in Japan, China, India and Southeast Asia, students will be better able to evaluate environmental issues and identify possible strategies and solutions to problems in the region.
