Resistivities of rocks and minerals. Factors controlling the bulk resistivity of rocks. Overview of practical methods of electrical surveying including Resistivity, Spontaneous Potential, Induced Polarisation and Electromagnetics. Time-domain and continuous wave methods of electromagnetic prospecting. Solutions of Laplace and Helmholtz equations for layered earth and discrete targets. Instrumentation for electrical and electromagnetic techniques including land and airborne variations. Practical aspects of electrical surveying including array design and optimisation. The course will include a number of software development projects to enhance the understanding of theoretical material.
