Course description
The chief focus of this course is on some of the most significant English and Irish 'modernist' writers of the early twentieth century (roughly 1900-1930). Because the modernists are experimenting with new forms during a period of radically changing values, close reading of literary works in the context of the period is the method of study. Authors may include novelists such as D.H. Lawrence, Edith Wharton, James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and Joseph Conrad, and poets such as T.S. Eliot and W.H. Auden. NOTE: Course offering may be cancelled unless a minimum of 20 students enrol.
