Zerlina is a volunteer speaker for beyondblue, a national organisation that works to raise awareness about anxiety and depression, reduce the associated stigma and encourage people to get help. She became a beyondblue speaker to hopefully help people understand that they don't need to feel ashamed or alone if they are experiencing any feelings of depression or anxiety and that support is out there.

Zerlina's interests include rock-climbing, music, yoga, the beach, being surrounded by friends and unhealthy amounts of reality TV. An interesting fact is her heritage is Polish and English.

    12pm-1pm

Guest Lecture - Balls in your court: A bloke's way to wellbeing - Dr John Barletta - QBI Auditorium (Building 79)

As great as us men are, blokes often struggle with help-seeking behaviours, which includes not going to a GP, failing to get a tradie to fix stuff, or ignoring ourselves and relationships. Blokes can be masters of self-deception and avoidance, thinking or hoping challenges will miraculously disappear. Good luck with that! We don't need to be perfect, but we can develop more skills to enhance our capacity and better habits to have a great life. Being a happy, healthy, successful bloke is absolutely possible. What's holding us back is ourselves! This entertaining and educational session outlines what blokes can do to increase their health, wellbeing, and productivity.

John's 35 years of professional experience includes teaching, therapy, workshops, keynotes, medico-legal assessments, corporate consulting, executive coaching, mediation, and clinical supervision. He trained at QUT (DipT, GradDipCouns), ACU (BEd), UQ (MEdSt), OhioU (PhD), and his post-doctoral work was at the prestigious Accademia di Psicoterapia della Famiglia in Rome. John is an energetic, down-to-earth guy who bases his work on empirical research, clinical practice, and lived experience. He has a passion for helping adults seeking a good life by promoting healthy living via positive psychology. He is autho of The Home Therapist and The Practice of Clinical Supervision, has been the psychology columnist for Style magazine for many years, and is an occasional ABC radio commentator on psychological issues.
