Attending to details
Once you have finished writing your thesis, consider its presentation. Your work deserves the best presentation possible and this also influences your readers' first impressions. Conforming to the requirements set up by your university is therefore very important. The following short checklist could assist you:
  • Conform to the order and format of contents as laid down by your university.

  • Be consistent with the hierarchy of your headings and sub-headings.

  • Obey your university's rules for presentation. Universities have very detailed rules about presentation. Do study them carefully and apply them. They give you the standard of word processing expected, the preferred size and type of font, margins, the way of presenting photographs and illustrations, how to handle captions, and so on.

  • Be consistent in usage of terms, abbreviations, spelling, punctuation.

  • Think about the acknowledgements you have to make. It is not only your supervisor who may have helped in some way. And, a very important point is to consider the tone to adopt so you sound genuine.

  • Double check you have included all references mentioned in your text in your bibliography or list of references and that all the details of this documentation are correct.
