Making connections

Welcome to the University of Queensland - our programs and services will help you settle into your course and life at university

After the stress and excitement of getting into university you are probably just beginning to think about what life at university will be like. You might feel excited, nervous and with so many opportunities on offer and new things to learn, possibly a little confused. These feelings are typical for new students, whether you have come from straight from school or later in life. We have put together a range of resources to help you settle in.

  • Getting started at UQ will guide you through accepting your offer, enrolling, signing-on to classes and attending orientation.
  • Connect U is for students who have accepted their UQ offer. You can ask one of our current students any questions you have about starting at UQ.
  • Jump Start Academic Preparation Program (JSAPP) is a week of fun activities and workshops to prepare you for the challenge of university study.
  • O-Week is a fun packed week of events to help you get familiar with the campus, meet people, get prepared for study, find out who’s there to help and most importantly, have fun! Learn about the social, sporting, study and support sessions we offer at UQ.
  • The New2UQ Team is a dedicated team of people who know about transition and understand the issues you may face as a new student. We offer a comprehensive orientation program and link you to other services and support that help you connect to the UQ community.
  • Thrive@UQ is a program to help you settle in faster. If you are a domestic student coming from a rural school or a school where not many people come to University, if you receive a Centrelink payment, if you are a mature age student, or face any other barrier to transition, we offer workshops and access to staff dedicated to assisting your transition to university. You can also connect with Thrive@UQ Student Leaders, experienced students who are on your course or in your subject area who can help you get the information you need and fast.
  • Mates@UQ offer a variety of free events, activities and programs to help you connect with your UQ community and get the most out of your time here.

UQ also provides a range of support if you are having personal and academic concerns which are impacting upon your ability to study effectively. Our aim is to help you better manage these concerns and continue to succeed with your studies.
