Making connections

Welcome to the University of Queensland - our programs and services will help you settle into your course and life at university

After the stress and excitement of getting into university you are probably just beginning to think about what life at university will be like. You might feel excited, nervous and with so many opportunities on offer and new things to learn, possibly a little confused. These feelings are typical for new students, whether you have come from straight from school or later in life. We have put together a range of resources to help you settle in.

  • Starting at UQ will guide you through accepting your offer, enrolling, signing-on to classes and attending orientation.
  • Connect U. Accepted your UQ offer? Have questions but not sure who to ask? Ask one of our current students.
  • Jump Start Academic Preparation Program is a week of fun activities and workshops to prepare you for the challenge of university study.
  • O-Week A fun packed week of events to help you get familiar with the campus, meet people, get prepared for study, find out who’s there to help and most importantly...have fun! great time to learn about the social, sporting, study and support sessions.
  • First Year Engagement Team is a dedicated team of people who know about transition and understand the issues you may face as a new student at UQ. We offer a comprehensive orientation program and link you to other services and support that help you connect to the UQ community.
  • Thrive mentors help you settle in faster. Experienced students who are on your course or in your subject area can help you get the information you need and fast. The First Year Engagement team will connect you with a Thrive mentor if you are coming from a rural school or a school where not many people come to University, if you receive a Centrelink payment, if you are a mature age student, or face any other barrier to transition.
  • Mates@UQ is a variety of free events, activities and programs to help you connect with your UQ community and get the most out of your time here.

UQ also offers a range of support if you are having personal and academic concerns which are impacting upon your ability to study effectively. Our aim is to help you better manage these concerns and continue to succeed with your studies.
