We aim to help you:

  • develop tertiary learning skills
  • become independent learners

We will do this through:

  • workshops
  • individual or small group appointments
It is usually best to attend workshops before you make an appointment.

Individual appointments can be helpful to:

  • further explain ideas from workshops
  • make up a workshop you could not attend
  • give you ideas about how to use feedback from academic staff
  • help you develop skills in writing or learning
  • give you feedback on your first few assignments before you hand them in
  • clarify assignment expectations and help you plan
  • give you guidance about how to prepare for exams or tackle certain subjects
  • provide confidential support and advice if problems arise with lecturers, supervisors or tutors.

Individual appointments are NOT to:

  • provide you with ongoing feedback on your assignments/thesis
  • provide you with a proofreading service.

How many appointments would most students need?

  • Most students need between one and four individual sessions per year.
  • We recognise that some students will need more support.
  • Decisions will be made based on your level of need.

What to bring to your appointment

  • Task sheets, criteria sheets and unit profiles
  • A print out of your assignment or plan
